Diploma thesis is “The Manifestation of Jazz Culture in spatial environment” it explores the origin of the term jazz, its characteristics, history and spatial environment where was played jazz music. The empirical part of this work the author analyzed public interiors of Jazz cafe and restaurants in New York, New Orleans, Chicago, Johanesburg, Paris, Madrid, Copenhagen and Riga and includes one interview with cabare/bar ‘Artelis. Gandriz teatris’ owner. The creative part consists of an interior project for Jazz cafe.

The goal of the Bachelor Thesis is to research the healing impact of space and develop an interior vision of Children's Clinical University hospital's department “A moment of space”. Author researches the basic interior design principles of healthcare institutions. Theoretically analyses the concept of healing impact of space, studying the healing interior in healthcare institutions and its significance in children’s hospitals. Author analyses the specifics of interior for children with autistic spectrum disorder, defines the symptoms of this disorder as well as explores the guidelines and criteria in creating space for people with autism developed and promoted by several architects and designers.

The theoretical part of the bachelor’s thesis summarizes the opinions of various authors about the concept of visual identity, its elements, their structure and meaning. The concept of fashion designer is explored, and the history of general and influential fashion designers is examined. In the research part of the Bachelor thesis various fashion designer logo examples from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are collected and analyzed to answer the question raised in the research – what is common and different in visual stylistic aspects of the graphic identity of clothing companies? Based on the information obtained in the theoretical and research part, the creative part develops and describes a design project and visual identity for the woman’s clothing brand.

Accessibility of art treasures for visually impaired people in museums

The aim of the research is to identify and explore the opportunities of graphic design for the integrated approach to reproduction of art values existing in museums to provide their availability for the people with visual impairment, to develop the graphic design for the artwork album with an appendix of tactile images, it will let also the people with visual impairment to know art values. In the basic part the author evaluates the opportunities of graphic design and tactile graphics in the provision of availability of artistic values, gives the analysis for the needs of the people with visual impairment and reviews the problems of perception, writes about the creation of integrated artwork album with an appendix for the blind and visually impaired people.

Aim – to develop a modern everyday uniform design solution, based on the research of uniform development and the necessity of improving the existing uniform of the Ministry of the Interior. Tasks: to collect and analyse literature and normative documents, to research the current situation, to study the user needs by focus-group discussions and an expert survey data, to analyse analogues, to develop a modern everyday uniform component design solution, create evaluation questionnaire and technical documentation, to produce design samples to evaluate the results. Methods: research and analysis of literature resources, focus group discussion and expert interview, evaluation of user needs, analysis of analogues. Modernity, functionality and visual expressions are accents in casual uniforms.

The given Master’s thesis attempts to trace the transition of how Soviet-era giant integrated furniture plants converted to manufacturing in an independent, democratic country, practically going through the events of last decade of the 20th century, tracing the survived companies’ further fates.
As a result, there is acquired an overview of the period from 1989, obtained an understanding of how politics influenced the industry, shown, how the giant plants divided and which of the companies continued their path and survived until today, which were privatised or denationalised, which ones bankrupted. Tasks: information collection, private house current situation research, analogue analysis, project theoretical and visual development, sketches, material, furniture selection, specification development, cost calculations. Methods: literature, normative documents, source analysis; analogue and user needs research. The cultural canon is a powerful tool in popularizing Latvian heritage thus Latgalian cultural heritage plays an important role through such values as pottery, folk costume, celebration Jāņi.

Objective: To develop an aesthetic and functional project for the interior design of the Rehabilitation Centre, using Eco design methods.
Tasks: To collect and analyze literature and sources of information, to research the current situation of the Rehabilitation Centre and analyze it.
The Rehabilitation Centre in Vilaka interior design developing process was inspired by historical use of the buildings and enhanced with Eco-design details, paying special attention to the needs of the functional area(s) using modern technologies, functional furniture and material application. The Interior Design Project was developed in accordance with the design and ergonomics requirements for public space.

Aim: to study the influence of Japanese fashion designer innovations in contemporary fashion, to develop a collection of clothing by using laser marking. Tasks: study literature, sources about the activities of Japanese fashion designers; connection of modern fashion trends with the innovations of these designers; relationship of Latvian fashion designers with Japanese ideas; collect and study the information on laser marking possibilities in the garments decor making; make a design concept for clothing collection. Research methods: theoretical, empirical, experimental results analysis. The collection of clothing is based on studies of modern fashion trends taken from Japanese fashion designers.
